Sunderland fans all expected a hard afternoon and some also brought beach balls and balloons to see if luck could strike twice. However, it was only Torres who could score twice to end any chances of doing the double over the Scousers this season.

Steve Bruce made a few changes and brought in Bardsley for Hutton and Cana in for Meyler. Ferdinand moved in to the centre of defence as Richardson moved back to his left back role. These changes already swayed the favour towards the home team as Richardson is simply better in mifield and this allowed Liverpool to dominate the game from the opening whistle.

Liverpool started like a house on fire and Torres scored a contender for goal of the season with an superb curling effort to beat the in form Gordon.

Sunderland were in the hands of Liverpool all afternoon with some fine passing and movement from Gerrard and Torres all game. Sunderland only managed two shots on target and Reina could have juggled beachballs for 90 minutes with the lack of times he was called upon.

It was a bad day for Sunderland but it could have been a lot lot worse if it were not for some fine saves by Gordon. He is still in top form and will be vital for our next home game against Spurs this weekend.

Hopefully Mensah and Hutton will be back to make us look more solid at the back as we struggled with the loss of these two players. Hutton and Mensah are not even our own players so it just shows that without these loanee players we are still not a fully performing team yet.

Sunderland move into the last six games with a difficult home game against 4th spot chasing Tottenham but we still have our class home record to keep our spirits lifted.

If we can grab a point on Saturday it will set us up nicely for the next run of games against West Ham, Hull, and Burnley.
