Talks over a new deal to secure his Sunderland future are something that Seb Larsson is looking for.

28-year-old Larsson still has a year on his contract, and does want to stay at the Stadium of Light and as such is keen to have talks in the coming months to get a new contract sorted.

Larsson told The Shields Gazette: ‘I have not thought about the future, I have one year left and have a new coach.

‘(The future) could possibly be something to discuss during the summer or at the beginning of next season.

‘There have already been a number of changes and it is clear that there will be changes in the squad, particularly because we had an extremely thin squad this year. I felt I got a lot of confidence when he came in, but I do not know his ideas for me for next year, it may emerge.’

Larsson’s been a very good, and important, player for Sunderland and I’d imagine that Paolo Di Canio will want to keep him. As such I’d think that a new contract will be something he’ll want him to sign as he’d not want to risk losing him on a free next summer.
