Sunderland midfielder Sebastian Larsson has signed a new three year contract that will keep him at the Stadium of Light until 2017.

The 28-year-old Swedish international has been with the Black Cats since he made the move from Birmingham City in 2011.

Larsson’s current contract is due to run out at the end of this month and for the last few weeks he has been linked with clubs across Europe and Stoke City in England.

But after talks with boss Gus Poyet, Larsson has decided that Wearside is the place to be.

Larsson told Sunderland’s official website: ‘I’m delighted to have signed a new deal with the club. I’ve had talks with Gus and Lee and I feel that this is a club moving in the right direction and I want to be part of it.

‘I had a few options but I want to be at Sunderland and I’m looking forward to the new season.’

Larsson made 41 appearances for Sunderland last season.
