The deal has cost the Black Cats £5 million and the young defender has signed a four and a half year deal.

Big Sam is hoping that his new signing will bolster his defence, a defence that has been leaving much to be desired all season and that should happen if the player lives up to his nickname of ‘The Beast’.

He will however have to watch his disciplinary record.

Kone will wear the number 23 shirt.
