Sunderland had 5 players out on international duty this week, here’s how they got on:

Ireland

Gary Breen – An unused sub in Ireland’s resounding 3-0 defeat of Sweden at Lansdowne Road.

Stephen Elliot – Played 48 minutes in the game in another step towards his full recovery from injury.

Liam Lawrence – Another unused sub tonight but will be delighted to have been involved in Steve Staunton’s first Ireland squad.

Scotland

Steven Caldwell – Started as sub and came on for the last half an hour but could do nothing to prevent the Scots crashing to a 3-1 defeat at home to Switzerland, with January Sunderland transfer target Ricardo Cabanas on target for the Swiss.

Wales

Danny Collins – An unused sub in their 0-0 draw at home to Paraguay.

England U-21’s

Justin Hoyte – Played the final 25 minutes in his first game for England Under 21’s since rejecting the advances of World Cup bound Trinidad and Tobago. The youngsters won 3-1 against Norway at the Madjeski Stadium, Reading on Tuesday night.

Justin Hoyte is a quality defender…..may we have him back please??

yes. actually to be honest he’s doing himself no favours staying here! he started keen and eager and performed brilliantly at left back. slowly as we deteriorated we brought him down to our level, and even as he played in his favoured position of right back he just got worse. he doesn’t look like he cares, and then again, why should he!
