Sunderland will play fellow Premier League club, West Ham United in Round 3 of the Carling Cup at the Stadium of Light.

Steve Bruce’s men unconvincingly beat Colchester 2-0 on Tuesday night to progress to this stage and they must face Avram Grant’s men.

SAFC last faced West Ham in the League Cup in 1988/9 over two legs in the second round. We lost 1-5 on aggregate after losing 3-0 at Roker and 1-2 at the Boleyn Ground. Marco Gabbiadini scored for the Lads.

The tie will be most likely played on Tuesday 21st September.

Should be a tricky one because both teams need to have a good cup run for confidence and they should send out strong squads but if Quinny and co lays on reduced tickets I can see home advantage working for us.

Lets hope we don’t get hammered. (sorry)
