German Jan Kirchhoff has been speaking about his delight at returning to training following his ten weeks out injured on the sidelines.

Having opted to remain on Wearside as the first team travelled to New York with the lull in the Premier League fixture list, he’s spent a week with the Under 23s getting himself back in the swing of things and building his fitness and he couldn’t be more delighted to be alongside his team mates once again now as we go into the game against Everton this weekend.

Speaking to the Official Site now he’s back with the group, and following his return to the Stadium of Light pitch in front of the fans who came to the open training session, he explained.

‘It was a great feeling to get back onto the pitch and an even better feeling to do it in front of an incredible atmosphere. It`s so nice that so many fans found their way to the Stadium of Light to watch us train and give us a real lift.’

Kirchhoff went on to say.

‘It`s tough to be out because during you rehab you have to train on your own, so it`s good to be with the team again. I used last week as the next phase of my rehab schedule because I needed team training, so I worked with the under-23s instead of travelling to New York.’

Adding.

‘It was better for my personal development if I stayed here and trained, and it was good for me as I`m now back with the team and I hope I can play my role and help the club. Our goal is to stay in the Premier League and we will all do our best to achieve that.’

The 26 year old will be hoping to be back in action sooner rather than later and to build on his eight appearances so far this campaign.
