Kilgallon, 26, has signed a three year contract for an undisclosed fee and looks to push for a starting place.
The ex Sheffield United centre half can play as centre back and can also play in the left back position will be a nice addition to the squad ravaged by recent injuries.
Kilgallon came through the youth ranks at Leeds United and played nearly 100 times for the Yorkshire club. He moved briefly to West Ham before moving to Brammall Lane for £2m in 2007.
Bruce will now focus his attentions on more signings as the transfer window seems to be hotting up in the final stages.
Vital Sunderland would like to welcome Kilgallon to the club and praise him for turning down moves to Burnley and obviously Newcastle United.
