Khazri In Talks Over Rennes Loan

It was being reported this afternoon that Sunderland’s Wahbi Khazri was in France for talks with Rennes over a loan move.

The Tunisian international signed from French Ligue 1 side Bordeaux 18 months back for £9million but has repeatedly made it clear he doesn’t want to play in the English second tier and although Sunderland would’ve preferred a permanent deal, only loan offers have arrived so presumably we are looking to cut our losses and offload a player who isn’t committed.

Of course from manager Simon Grayson’s viewpoint, freeing up his wages would give him slightly more wriggle room in his own dealings.

Sky Sports carry the report but they don’t speculate on how advanced these talks might be or whether it will be a deal with a permanent option next summer.

Khazri made only 21 Premier League appearances for the club last season, scoring one goal and he’s made five appearances so far this term.
