Roy Keane believes ex-Newcastle forward Michael Chopra is the danger man for Cardiff.

Chopra scored at the Stadium of Light for the big rivals from Tyneside in their 4-1 win last season. After coming on as a substitute with Sunderland 1-0 up, the young striker equalised with his first touch before Newcastle raced ahead.

And after dropping a division to join Cardiff this summer, Roy Keane is fully aware of the threat he poses.

He added: ‘I have seen Chopra a few times and he is a natural goalscorer. Some times you need to take a stop backwards to move forwards and he has certainly done very well for Cardiff.

‘This is another gauge for us to see how far we think we might have come. Cardiff are a good side and in Dave Jones, they have an excellent manager, someone I have the highest respect for.

‘He’s bought well and I’m certainly not surprised they are where they are. I full expect them to be there or thereabouts at the end of the season.’

And Chopra himself has admitted that, as a boyhood Newcastle fan, he can’t wait to play on Wearside again.

“We need to get back to winning ways and it would mean so much to me to score against Sunderland.

“I scored within 15 seconds of coming on. We were getting beat 1-0 at the time, but I came on and made it 1-1.

“That changed the game and if you look at the photographs, you can see how much it meant to me.

‘When you grow up on the streets of Newcastle, those are the games you dream of playing in.

“To get the chance to play against Sunderland for Cardiff is great and I’ll be extremely happy if I score.”

Sunderland should be wary of the whole team. This is a very important game for you guys. Playing the bottom side and then immediately afterwards the top side will show you how far you have or have not really come. Cardiff slipped at home to Derby but this looms as a top game for the Fizzy Pop League.
