Keane wants Beckham..

Just what on earth is going on today? First we receive over £1m for Stead, then it’s reported Keane has enquired about Beckham.

Personally, I can’t believe I’m writing this, but when Sky Sports News, The Times and BBC 5 Live all report that Sunderland are one of four English clubs to have registered an interest in signing David Beckham, it cannot be ignored.

Clearly, this is stuff of fancy, and there is more chance of Mick McCarthy making up with Roy Keane than there is of Beckham bringing Posh and the kids over to Wearside. Oh…

But in all seriousness, while there is little to no chance of Beckham having any interest in joining a Championship side, no matter how much he respects his former teammate Keane, it does again show how far Sunderland have already advanced under the leadership of Quinn and Keane.

Their ambition knows no bounds. And for a club restricted under the shackles of Bob Murray’s well founded but ultimately limited ambitions for the club for years, it is just refreshing that our club is being mentioned in fanciful negotiations.

For while clubs the size of Bolton have been siging Dugarry, Okocha, Nakata, Hierro and Campo, Sunderland fans have long been looking enviously at the Reebok and other clubs of similar ambitious ilk.

Not any more it would seem. If the Stokes transfer from under the noses of Celtic and Charlton didn’t convince some fans, this quite frankly ludicrous enquiry for Beckham definately will.

For while Beckham will not be settling in Hendon and Posh won’t be seen shopping in the Bridges, should Sunderland find themselves back in the Premiership in the next few years, just imagine who our revolutionary owners and influential manager may convince to sign.
