Keane to add expertise….

Sunderland manager Roy Keane has admitted that he is close to adding several new faces to his backroom staff.

Since joining the club the former Manchester United midfielder has brought only one member of staff with him, ex-Leicester City youth coach Tony Loughlan as his head coach, and has not made any changes to the existing backroom staff on Wearside.

However Keane, who failed to entice Brian Kidd to the club, is eager to bring more faces in to offer a helping hand,

Keane told The Journal;

‘There will be changes in the backroom staff and I’m meeting up with someone this week to talk about that. I said from day one at the club that I would be looking to make changes for the benefit of the club.

‘But I’m looking at every aspect of the club and there are one or two staff I’ve still got in mind but some of them are at other clubs.

‘You don’t just want to get people in for the sake of it but I am making progress on certain people and when the time is right I can bring them in.

‘I’m looking at areas like sports science, gym work, nutrition. It’s vital at any club but it will only take you so far.’

And while this may mean that current members of his staff may well be worried about their future, one man who won’t be leaving Sunderland is Bobby Saxton.

Sacko was brought back to the club just this Summer to help Niall Quinn as he reluctantly took charge of the club while waiting for Keane. But it would seem that Keane also wants him at the club in some capacity,

‘Bobby remains part and parcel of things here. He didn’t come to the game against Ipswich but he’s still part of things here.

‘He’s done a bit of scouting for us. He’s very hands-on and his experience is vital to us. You can’t dismiss his knowledge of players.’
