Keane Speaks?

On the club

‘It’s a big club, a beautiful stadium, a big fan base so why not? The people in this area have great passion for football and that is something I need in my life.’

On head coach tony loughlan

‘Tony’s the same age as me, he’s young, enthusiastic, loves his football and is a very good coach.

‘I’ve known him since the first day at Nottingham Forest and he’s one person I have kept in touch with. I trust him and have got great faith in him, he’ll be a very, very good coach’

On the past

‘People have this impression of me but it’s important to move on.

‘I’ve had differences with thousands of people. Working with Niall I really don’t see a problem.

‘I’m humble enough to apologise if I’ve done anything wrong. People make a big issue of what happened but when I met with Niall three months ago we sorted it out there and then – whether I was going to take this job or not which was important for me.’

On his temperament

‘I have crossed that line and it’s cost me a lot – the World Cup in 2002 and my United career I suppose,

‘But I care about the game and I will look to get that balance right. I’ve made mistakes – I’m just glad I’ve got this opportunity and I hope to make the most of it.

‘All I ever expected from my team-mates was 100%, I never criticised people for having a bad game.

‘I spoke to the players this morning and reassured them that if they give 100% there won’t be a problem.

‘When I was playing I saw games as a war – that was part of my image. I had to lead by example and we would win at all costs.

‘It’s a balancing act and I can’t go off the handle as much as a player.

On his style

‘If something is not going like I want it I’ll still look to nail it – just a bit more subtly.

‘In terms of style I’ve played under some great managers, some good managers and some maybe not so good. I hope I can take the best of all of them.

‘It’s going to be a learning curve and people go on about experience but there’s been some experienced managers here and it’s not worked out.

‘I’m young and I’m hungry, I enjoy football and have got lots of ideas.

On Alex Ferguson

‘I was very, very fortunate to play under him and I’m sure he’ll lend me a few players if I need them.’

Quinn on Keane

‘Roy has the brief to take the club where he sees it – and he’s got as much time as he wants.

‘He’s the safest bet of every manager put in front of me – all the lights came on with Roy Keane’s name – it became an obvious choice.

‘We’re trying to do some really positive for the future. It’s about onwards and upwards.’

Roy Keane certainly has managed to keep his enthusiasm for the game. I can imagine a few circumstances where I for one would not like to be on the receiving end in his dressing room at half time. Still that is what has brought him there.

  • geordie boys says:

SO WHERE’S THIS WORLD CLASS MANAGER U WERE GOING TO GET LOL KEANE IS A S*** HEAD

  • ValsPal says:

Don’t know why so many people say Keane will be a good manager! He’s arrogant, hot tempered, lacks tact and diplomacy, doesn’t appear to have any respect for anyone, has a massive ego, is totally lacking in people skills, thinks he’s right all the time, etc etc. I think he’ll be a nightmare once the honeymoon period is over, there’ll be transfer requests all over the place, and no-one will want to sign for Sunderland and have him as their gaffer. Big mistake by Quinn. Bet they’re both gone by this time next year!

good luck to you’s i think Keane will be a good manager for you. He’s got some good signings in with the time he had and that shows you the pulling power his reputation has, the Jan transfer window will be better for him and i’m sure people will want to play for him. Hail Hail .

  • paulmac67 says:

as for Geordie boys, if i was asked who i wanted to manage my club Keane or Roeder – Keane wins hands down

  • wrigley says:

good luck to you boys seems as those geordie boy may be a tad envious, remember roeder managed to get us relegated (watford0 and did the same at west ham.

  • swanzboichris says:

  • BisphamTangerine says:

Good luck but will reserve judgement and even opinion on Keane as a manager just yet. I would like to think he would do well, but is Sunderland the right place for him to be learning his trade?

  • POMPEYMEV says:

He may be a good player but I can’t see him being a particularly good manager. I hope i’m wrong and you do well but I will be suprised if he is the reason

  • sandgroanun says:

Interesting times ahead at the Stadium of Light. But is this the best place to learn your trade? Only time will tell.

  • Easington_FTM says:

championship won hey were only 10 points off the top.the geordies are taking the p iss but there messiah(keegan) never managed a team till he went to the barcode scum and they finished second in the premiership.you also have to think that since our take over safc are the fourth richest club in britain(our investors are worth 2.3 billion) so we can buy any player we want

  • geordie boys says:

  • Easington_FTM says:

nufc =joke my geordie friend. were on the up and you lot hate it because the spotlight has moved from tyneside to wearside(it will never fall on teeside we can agree on that smoggie retards)

  • pompeygray says:

Well I have to say that Fulham went to Sunderland at the end of last year and got beaten, and now they’ve just come back from the other team in the NE and grabbed 3 points, so Sunderland could be on the rise again whilst Newcastle could be in decline. The Shearer era is over.

  • dazza71 says:

he should be a good manager he certainly played for two of the best during his career
