Sunderland manger Roy Keane was less than satisfied with Rob Styles performance after he refused two good calls for a penalty. He also thinks the score was flattering for Liverpool.

Keane told safc.com “Three-nil was a bit harsh on the players, we like to think it was a bit closer than that but that’s the scoreline and we’ve got to accept it.”

“We did okay in terms of possession, but we didn’t really test their keeper. We knew the first 10 or 15 minutes of the second half was going to be vital and once Liverpool got their goal, it was always going to be hard.”

“From my point of view, we should have had a penalty but I don’t think we were ever going to get one. Carragher lifted his arm and it should have been a penalty. Rob Styles gave a penalty against us at Blackburn for exactly the same thing, against Danny Higginbotham.”

“We did okay in terms of possession, without really testing their keeper. We had a couple of penalty shouts and a half-chance from a corner.”

“we needed to do a bit more, I have to say. We did okay but we still lost 3-0. I don’t think the strikers got great service and the injury to Kieran Richardson after two minutes certainly didn’t help.”

“At 2-0, we were still bombing forward and they picked us off late on.”

Vital Sunderland Says

Keane is right we should have had at least one penalty. However in my opinion we should have had two and if we converted them it would have been a much different game.
