Only days after shipping him out to Stoke, Roy Keane is looking to replace winger Liam Lawrence with Sheffield United’s Paul Ifil.

Sleeves Elliot did a cracking job filling in on the right hand side of a five man midfield against Colchester on Saturday, but with the little Irish fella banging in two goals, the quicker he’s moved upfront the better.

And so Keane has made inroads into the market and is looking to sign Ifil, who was once considered the next big thing when playing alongside Cahill at Millwall the season they beat us three times, including a crushing FA Cup semi-final defeat in which Ifil was particularly impressive.

However he now finds himself behind Keith Gillespie at Sheffield United, so i’m assuming things aren’t all that rosy for the Barbados international. Yes, you read right.

Apparently, since finding himself out of the Sheffield United side, Ifil has ‘decided to go on International duty’ for Barbados, and this may mean that Keane is not able to get a deal done until January.

Now call me a cynic, but is our friend Ifil really a Barbados international? Or is he pulling the other one with his not-too-clever boss Neil Warnock? Either way he’s managed to get a couple of weeks in somewhat nicer surroundings than Sheffield.

If Ifil returns early from ‘international duty’ in time he may sign on loan by Thursday’s deadline, however should he stay out there for a bit longer, it remains to be seen whether Keane will pursue his interest in January.

Sunderland or Sunny Land? He’ll decide.

Sorry.
