Keane happy with victory

Sunderland manger Roy Keane was relieved to have some precious points on the board after their game against Bolton.

Roy Keane told safc.com “It’s nice to win, it feels like a while since we have done so.”

“It wasn’t pretty but it was a win and I think the players deserved it. We’ve played a lot better this year and not won but today we ground out a good win.”

“Kieran did very well, he’s a talented player, there’s no question about that.”

“Ross hurt his hamstring in training yesterday so we had to throw Kieran in. But in this situation you have to roll up your sleeves and some players have to play when they are not fully fit.”

“We had to win the game twice. We were 2-0 up three or four minutes before half-time, we gave away a sloppy free-kick and it was 2-1 at half time. They went in lifted and we were fed up so the players have to win the game again.”

“Our back-four has been criticised – especially the two centre-backs – but they did very well today.”

“We made it hard for ourselves by dropping so deep and not keeping possession when we had it. The one time we produced anything was when Murphy scored, we could have done with that a lot earlier but credit to the players.”

“When we are at home we have to approach the games in a positive way, we have to go for it.”

“Kenwyne has been brilliant for us. I thought he was good against United against Rio and Vidic. People will look at his goal and assists but he runs his socks off, he’s a team player.”

“I want a team that will roll their sleeves up when needs be and we did that.”

“I say it’s a must-win game every week, as manager of Sunderland I seem to say it all the time. We’re out of the bottom three but it will only count in May.”

“You can’t beat winning football matches, it’s a boost for everyone – the players, they enjoy a win bonus, and the fans.”

Vital Sunderland Says

I think Roy is as relieved as every other Sunderland supporter we needed to win against Bolton to stand any chance of surviving this season. Hopefully this win can kick start our season.
