Julio Arca has completed his move to Middlesbrough this morning after passing a medical.

The Argentine was in the final year of his contract and has commanded a fee of around £1.5m.

Sunderland chairman-elect/manager Niall Quinn revealed yesterday that he would offer Arca the same terms as Middlesbrough have offered, but ultimately Arca’s international ambitions have ruled over his heart.

Quinn said yesterday,

‘I have told him we will match whatever Middlesbrough offer.

‘I think he has his heart set on going to Boro. I’m not cross – he has already stayed once after this club went down – but I am disappointed as he is a terrific guy and a smashing player.’

Arca joined Sunderland as a 19-year-old in a £3.5million deal from Argentinos Juniors in July 2000 and made 177 appearances for the club. After scoring on his debut vs West Ham he became an instant crowd favourite.

Good luck Julio, we hope to see you back at the Stadium of Light again very soon.
