The former Wigan man is on his way to Ewood Park for a medical and if all goes well he will sign for Rovers until the end of the season, according to The Sun.
Gomez has struggled to get into the first team so far this season making just six appearances.
When the player first arrived at the Stadium of Light he made 27 appearances and found the net four times.
But he has lost his way under the leadership of Sam Allardyce so the club see no problem in letting him go out on loan to a Championship side.
