Sunderland winger Adam Johnson has been called up by England boss Roy Hodgson as the Three Lions take on San Marino and Poland in World Cup qualifying.

Johnson, 25, has 12 full England caps and has scored twice for his country, but has been out of the international picture recently after falling down the pecking order at Manchester City.

However a return to the north east has seen the Sunderland-born flyer return to the international set-up under Hodgson who has made several changes to his latest squad.

Celtic ‘keeper Fraser Forster is a surprise inclusion, whilst Tottenham Hotspur winger Aaron Lennon returns and Stoke City defender Ryan Shawcross earns a call-up.

England will face San Marino on October 12 at Wembley before travelling to Poland on October 16.
