Henderson came out and admitted honestly today that he isn’t scoring enough goals for his club. He said: “It has been a weakness in my game’ and he will be looking to help out with Gyan, Welbeck and Campbell all out for the rest of the season.
Henderson added: ‘It is really good to come away with two goals, but it is even more satisfying to get the win for everyone associated with the club. It is a massive result. We can take a lot of positives from the game, and we look forward to next week.
“I just want to keep improving and keep learning and keep practicing the things I don`t think I am good at and improve things I can get better at. I will take it as it comes and be the best I can be. But top midfielders score goals. It is a vital part of the modern game. l want to score goals and it is something I`ve not managed to do enough of.
“Unless you are a different midfielder, like a holding midfielder who has a different mentality, you need to add your fair share. It`s something I know I`ve to work on. This is just the start, I can`t get carried away. I`ve only scored in two games this season and have three goals. It`s not good enough, I`ve got to keep working on it although I was pleased at the way I took them.
“It was a good ball from Sulley (Muntari) for the first one. For a Sunderland lad it is an amazing feeling scoring in front of your own crowd. Every time I have scored it`s been an amazing feeling, unfortunately I haven`t had it often enough.”
Sunderland take on Fulham at home next weekend as they look to overtake Newcastle in the league and establish themselves in the top ten.
