Al-Ain striker Asamoah Gyan has admitted he was lured to the UAE by the enormous pay packet on offer.

The £13m forward joined Al-Ain late in the August transfer window on a season-long loan with a view to a permanent move and has today broken his silence on the issue.

Speaking to the Sunderland Echo, Gyan said:

‘In life you need two things. You need to be happy and you need to look after yourself money-wise.

“I made a decision with my family and the most important thing was for me to be happy and to be with my family.

“I made the decision and it was Sunderland who agreed on the deal. It was Sunderland and me who did the deal. I couldn`t have gone unless they agreed. There was no problem.”

Gyan also admitted that he would be happy to work under Steve Bruce or return to Sunderland once the loan deal was up, but admitted there was scope for a permanent deal in the Middle East.

Good riddance.
