Steve Bruce finally found a replacement for Kenwyne Jones this evening as the club swooped for Ghanian World Cup star, Asamoah Gyan.
The £13M+ deal from French club Rennes broke the clubs record transfer, beating Darren Bent’s £10M move last summer and Bruce will be delighted to finally land his man after tracking him for over a year.
Asamoah joins fellow Ghanian John Mensah at the club and he will hope to forge a fruitful partnership with Bent this season.
The move was essential for the club as Fraizer Campbell was ruled out for at least 6 months with cruciate ligament damge. Martyn Waghorn, leaving the club to join Leicester for £3M to fund the Gyan move, would have left us with just two recognised strikers in Bent & on loan Danny Welbeck.
Asamoah tonight praised the club’s ‘incredible’ fans and this is indeed an incredible signing for Bruce, Quinn & Walton whom all fans should be thankful to, aswell as owner Ellis Short who continues to fund the club with his wealth.
-Teemu Tainio left the club tonight after the club cancelled his contract by mutual consent.
-SAFC Reserves lost 3-1 to derby rivals Newcastle Utd tonight at the Stadium of Light. The match was watched by new signing Asamoah Gyan.

Gyan on lad!
Great signing. It’s good to see a board backing the manager with money. If only Everton could do that!
I am sooooooooooooooo jealous!
Excellent signing by Bruce and it’s nice to see that we can attract players of Gyan’s undoubted quality coming to the SOL.
You could have given us that cash for N’Zogbia….whats up with yer?
Wait til Jan Worbo and he will come.
