Gyan will play up front with Darren Bent and aim to help out on the goal scoring front in a bid to re-gain confidence amongst the players and fans.

Gyan told the Sunderland Echo: “Everyone here knows what the game against Newcastle means to the fans. We lost it really bad and it is hard for everyone.

“But we have to concentrate on the next game. We can`t change Sunday`s result. It happened that way and we really wish it didn`t.

“Now we have to play Stoke and we have to bring back the smiles to our fans` faces. We have to concentrate now on getting the right result.

“We must only concentrate on this game and not think about what went wrong at Newcastle.

“I think, once the game starts on Saturday, our fans will be back with us wanting to win the game. We all want the same thing.

“I am a sportsman and I know that when I arrived, the team was doing well. I understand that the coach cannot change the team when things have been going so well.

“I would not go and knock on his door asking what is going on. In any case, you put more pressure on yourself doing that because then you really have to play well!

“I have had to wait, but I feel very fit and I look forward to playing alongside Darren Bent. He`s a great marksman – the top man and we all have to play around him.

“Kenwyne Jones is a good striker and he`ll come here wanting to prove people wrong. I know about Stoke – they put pressure on you all the time, get the ball forward quickly and make you win a lot of tackles.

“It doesn`t matter about last weekend, this was a hard game anyway and we have to be fully committed to it.”
