Gyan, who made 31 appearances for Sunderland had a great start to his Sunderland campaign with a goal on his debut against Wigan.
Gyan, who started a third of those 31 games on the bench, has done well to score 10 goals in a season hampered by niggly injuries.
Gyan said: ‘That game against Wigan, I thought I was going to score a hat-trick.
“When I got that goal, I said to myself that I needed to score more.
“Unfortunately then I got the injury and it was disappointing that I was not able to reach my 15 goals.
“Then again, I think most people are happy with my performances this season.
“I came here just getting used to the game, but I think my performances have been quite impressive.
“The fans have supported me and the team.”
Gyan will be looking to get a good pre-season under his belt as he prepares for a full English season. He is happy to see his new club finish in the top ten and aims to fire them towards Europe in 2011/12.
Gyan added: “I was a big doubt to feature in the game, but I felt like I had a good game.
“I was really happy to be back. I was out for a month and only trained twice with the team.
“We won and finally finished in the top 10 after the ups and downs we`ve been through this season. We`re happy with 10th place.
“We started the season so well and we played excellently in the first six months. There were a lot of injuries, but we`ve done so well to get back to the top 10.”
