‘We were better with 10 men than 11.’ – Gus Poyet

The poor game and performance is just the latest of a string of bad games for the Black Cats and Saturday’s game was not helped by the fact that Jack Rodwell was sent off for a second bookable offence.

However, the Sunderland boss did say that he was pleased with how the team coped after Rodwell had left the field.

Poyet told reporters: ‘It was a poor game overall. The second half was better, there was more emotion and more pressing.

‘The sending off changed the game but it is football, if you see the results in the FA Cup today it shows it means so much for teams.

‘We were better with 10 men than 11. The players know someone is missing so they give an extra bit, it is disappointing that they don’t do that before but I think that is just human nature.’

Now the two teams will have to go through it all again at Craven Cottage on Tuesday 3rd February.
