Gus Expects More From Altidore

Sunderland manager Gus Poyet wants striker Jozy Altidore to go out onto the field at Hull today and prove that he is worthy of a place in the side.

Altidore missed out on an appearance at Wembley as he has a poor recorded of just two goals in 32 appearances for the Black Cats.

But the Sunderland boss has admitted that it was a hard thing to do in dropping the player for Wembley, but he hopes now that he has the chance to vent his frustration at Hull, he will do so.

Speaking to the Daily Express, Poyet said: ‘It was hard to leave him out but I needed to make the bench something I was comfortable with. I have a responsibility for the team. It’s not nice, I don’t like doing it but he has to cope with it.

‘Let’s see how he reacts. I look forward to seeing what type of character he is. I’d like him to prove me wrong. He should take his frustration out on the pitch.
