Sunderland boss Gus Poyet was unable to explain his side’s 4-0 hammering at home to Aston Villa on Saturday and if he doesn’t know, then may the Lord help us.

An absolutely shambolic display made Villa’s job of grabbing three points to aid their own survival an easy one, not that they were looking like a side in trouble, the striking venom of Christian Benteke and Gabriel Agbonlahor, who both grabbed a brace in the first half showed a big gap in class between our goalscorers and theirs.

After the win Villa leapfrogged Sunderland in the table and make no mistake, its Sunderland who are going down this season, there won’t be a miracle this time.

Poyet made all the usual noises about not walking out on the club after the game, but he must be a worried man. When asked if he expects to speak to Sunderland owner Ellis Short about the shambles he is making on running the team.

He told reporters: ‘I don’t know. I don’t speak to the owner after every game, we speak when we need to speak.

‘I’m just trying to accept something that I’ve got no explanation for. I prefer not to go into details, we’re going to analyse the first half very carefully.

‘I’m extremely disappointed. I did not expect this to happen but that’s football I suppose. I’m honest, when things go right I tell you I’m responsible and when things go wrong I’m responsible.’

Poyet will be in a meeting with the big boss on Monday and that may well be his last job at the Stadium of Light.

I’m a Villa fan and although I’m glad we won I felt so sorry for you guys. It was exactly like watching villa under lambert, so now poyet has gone I think you will have a good chance of staying up, and hope you do.

Cheers. Its was poor wasn’t it? By far the worst performance of the season. But you also deserved it, by far the better team

No worries sock, sorry for the double post, it was poor an I know its early days for villa but it proves the difference a change in manager can have even if its for the short term, which at the moment is what you need
