Manager Simon Grayson has spoken of his delight at welcoming back Lewis Grabban from injury and Aiden McGeady has talked about his disappointment at dropping points in the tie against Queens Park Rangers this weekend.
Speaking about the return of our onloan striker, Grayson explained that the 29 year old was a nice option to call upon again having been sidelined with a hamstring injury since our defeat to Nottingham Forest in mid September.
Meeting with the Official Site and club press on Monday, he was also delighted with Duncan Watmore’s run out given he made his first start in ten months following an injury of his own.
‘Lewis has been out for four or five weeks now so it is great to have him back. It was 75 minutes for Duncan which is great for everybody and himself as well – he is only going to get better.’
Grayson went on to say.
‘There were one or two niggles that we had to contend with before the game and during it. That didn`t allow me to make the substitutions a little bit earlier because I had to be careful with one or two other defenders who were carrying the odd knock or two. We showed some good character because we did not bury our head in the sand and accept defeat. We have got back on it so let`s hope we can keep building off the two results we have had in terms of the draws when we go into the Brentford game next week.’
As for McGeady, he took his goal tally to four for the season and three in as many games, but the Republic of Ireland international felt that with the chances we had on the day, we really should’ve taken more than a point from the tie.
‘It is obviously disappointing but the fact we didn`t get beat is a bit of a small positive to take from it. It was the same at Preston last week – we probably had the better chances, I had a good chance and probably should have scored it. They scored from a set-piece, it is difficult because it just seems at the minute we are going a goal behind or we are having to score two or three goals to win a game. It is going to be difficult to pick up points in this league if you have to do that.’
The 31 year old went on to say.
‘Overall, I thought we were the better team in the second half and probably should`ve taken three points with another couple of chances that we had. It is pleasing to score at any time but ultimately I want the team to win. I would rather the team won than score. It is good to be chipping in with goals at important times and I want to carry that on as much as I can but ultimately, we want to be winning games. We are at that stage of the season now when if we don`t start winning games teams will start racing away from us.’
