Manager Simon Grayson has said he’s looking forward to seeing the Stadium of Light rocking as we host Leeds United in Saturday’s late kick off.

Having overseen an unbeaten start to life at the club with two draws, a win and a League Cup win, Grayson welcomes his former side to home soil this season and they too are unbeaten this year.

Speaking to the Official Site as he met with the media for his pre game press conference earlier today, Grayson explained that he was expecting a tough encounter but he felt the fans could make the difference on the day.

‘It seems a long time since the Derby game so it`ll be nice to get back to the Stadium of Light and get the supporters back in their seats. It`s an unbelievable atmosphere when it gets going and the Derby game highlighted that, because I thought the supporters were excellent and hopefully come Saturday – and throughout the season – they come in their numbers and make it a difficult place for the opposition to come.’

Grayson went on to say that key to success this year for him would be making our home stadium a fortress.

‘If you have a full stadium it can be an intimidating atmosphere and it can really inspire the players. It`s where you want to win most of your matches because you`ve got the nucleus of your supporters there and you want them to buy into your ideas, so we want to get the numbers back, get the team playing well and let the supporters see the team playing with the pride and passion this club deserves.’

He added.

‘These are the games the players want to be involved in and look forward to because it`ll be a great atmosphere and Leeds have a big following. It`ll be a tough game because they`ve started the season well and they`re also unbeaten, so we know what to expect and I watched them on Tuesday night. It`s a game we want to enjoy, thrive in and want to keep our run going.’

As for transfer talks, Grayson again repeated that he was trying to get deals done but unfortunately not everything comes off.

“We want to bring players in. We missed out on Max Gradel the other day which was unfortunate because the young lad wanted to come three weeks ago. We had a deal agreed with Bournemouth but he started pre-season so well which meant Bournemouth wanted to keep him around. It just shows you the calibre of player we are looking at. He would`ve been a good player for us but we move onto other targets now.”

Grayson went on to say.

“As things stand if any money came in from players going out then maybe there would be an option to go and spend some money. If we are left with the squad we have got on September 1, with one or two additions, then I would be more than satisfied. We have got some good players and got strength in-depth but ultimately, who knows what`s going to happen in the next 10 days or so.”

With Robert Snodgrass the latest to be linked with Sunderland, he ended by saying.

“When people like Snodgrass come available you would be foolish to not consider it. Again, that would be a deal that would be dictated by finances. He is a good footballer who I enjoyed working with at Leeds. Would he be a good addition to Sunderland? Of course, he is a good footballer. Can we do it? Who knows but we might ask the question.”

He also confirmed that Josh Maja was now out for five weeks following surgery on his knee.

Having had a good impact in pre season prior to suffering the injury at Valley Parade, Grayson said.

“Josh will be out for 4-5 weeks. He had a knee operation on Tuesday morning. I`m disappointed because he had a good pre-season with us, but he`ll come back stronger and fitter. Hopefully he can pick up where he left off.”
