Sunderland striker Andy Gray has expressed his wish to stay at Turf Moor for several years after a promising start for Steve Cotteril’s side.

After finding the net only once for Sunderland all season, the beleagured striker left for a loan move to Turf Moor, where he has resurrected his form, scoring 3 times in 5 appearances.

The striker has revealed that he does not wish to return to Wearside, but instead has settled in well at Burnley.

He said: ‘I was always confident I would score goals. I had a bad time at Sunderland and I just wanted to get away from there and play football.

‘I could have gone to other clubs on loan, but I wanted to go somewhere I was going to stay for at least a few years.

‘The manager was very optimistic for the future of the club. It was his overall ambition of where he, and the club, want to go, which made the decision easier.’

While his form in the Premiership was abysmal, it remains to be seen whether getting rid of a striker with a decent scoring record in the Championship will prove to be the right decision, bearing in mind that is where Sunderland will be plying their trade next season.
