Sunderland goalkeeper Craig Gordon is happy to take some positives from the game against Derby at the weekend. He is also hoping Sunderland fans can play their part in the end of season run in.

Gordon told the Sunderland Echo ‘It was always going to be close on Saturday because of the way it’s gone for both sides.

‘As a defence, we’ve kept our side of the bargain with the clean sheet and that at least is something to be happy with. But we felt we had the chances to win the game and we’ve come away disappointed not to have got the three points. It was a good opportunity to do that.

‘The table is tighter again and a couple of the results made it even closer between a group of eight or nine of us in the bottom half of the table.

‘We have a couple of tough games at home now, but with our home record and our crowd we have to have the belief that we can do well in these games.’

Gordon also gave his view of the goal that never was he told the Sunderlan Echo ‘I was a long way from that, obviously, but a few of the lads have seen a replay and said it was onside. These are big decisions for clubs in our position, but perhaps we can’t complain too much because there were other chances in the game that we haven’t taken.’
