George McCartney has finally completed his move to West Ham following a second medical at Upton Park.

The Northern Ireland international had passed an initial medical in August, but fears over a knee injury prompted a second medical in order to complete the £400,000 deal which saw Clive Clarke move the opposite way last month.

He signed a four-year deal at the London club.

McCartney said: ‘I think I am about two to three weeks from getting back into full training at which point I will play some reserve games to get me back to full fitness then it will just be a case of pushing for the first team.

‘It was strange how things happened when I first signed, still being up in Sunderland for my treatment, but now I have been down here for a couple of weeks and all the lads have been top class and have looked after me.

‘The manager and his staff have made me feel really welcome too and I am just delighted to be here. Now I just want to put my head down and work hard at getting into the first team.’
