Sam Allardyce is of the opinion that foreign players love nothing more than a good roll around after an opposing player has brushed passed them.

Big Sam was answering questions after watching his side go down 1-0 at the hands of Manchester City last night, a game in which there was a difference of opinion between Jermain Defoe and Argentine Nicolas Otamendi.

Defoe caught the volatile City man with a flailing arm as the two got stuck into a challenge and the former took to the floor.

Referee Stuart Atwell saw little to convince him to get a card out and the incident went unpunished.

Sam suggested that any looking into the incident should be aimed at Otamendi’s reaction claiming that ‘foreign players’ tend to ‘make a fuss’ because ‘that’s what they do.’

When asked about the incident Sam said: ‘Jermain Defoe doesn`t elbow anybody on purpose. They make a big fuss about it and that`s what they do.

‘That`s mostly foreign players, they do make a big fuss of it. That`s in their nature. They react in a more volatile way to incidents like that than we do.’

Earlier this season, his reaction to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp’s complaint about Jermain Lens’ tackle on Mamadou Sakho was that he was ‘just a soft German.’

  • Allardyce is spot on, as soon as another player gets near them they dive to the floor holding their faces as if they had just been smacked inbetween the eyes with a hammer. bout time somebody spoke the truth for once

  • Fat Sam is spot on ? yeah, I saw Aguero pretending that the lower league donkey jones had raked his calf , shredding his sock and leaving a 12″ welt down the calf, is it too late to be nominated for an Oscar? Fat Sam is a chunt. Also Defoes elbow on deMichelis was a red card (if you can imagine your own player on the end of it I think you’d agree ) for me. Otamendi was over-reacting to try to get Defoe off, wrong response, should have just made him look at the scoreboard and asked him if he knows the way to Burton and Gillingham.
