Steven Fletcher is pencilled into Gus Poyet’s Wembley side for next week if the player is fit enough.

He could have played against Arsenal last weekend but it was decided not to risk the striker with a place on the bench even though he had been back in training since Wednesday after recovering from an Achilles injury.

But the 26 year old stands a good chance of stepping out onto the Wembley turf as Poyet mulls over a different approach to the game.

Poyet told the Gazette: “If he had been on the bench and he could have played 20 minutes, then we would have put him in. But I didn`t want to have that dilemma of making him play more than he should.

“You can always get another injury as the main striker.

“He trained with us on Saturday, and he`s a possibility for the team at the weekend.”

Fletcher last featured as a substitute in the 1-0 win over Stoke City in January.
