Sunderland striker Steven Fletcher is raring to go after finally recovering from his ankle injury.

The Scotland international had a bad time of this last season, spending a great deal of time injured and missing the final three months of the season, also because of injury.

But Fletcher is raring to go and wants to play some part in this Saturday’s friendly against Darlington and build from there.

The striker told reporters: ‘It would be nice to stay injury-free for the full season, so touch wood that I can because last year was very frustrating,’ he told the club’s website.

‘It’s been a hard week but I’m glad to be back and it’s good to be training again, especially because I was out for so long last season.’

Fletcher expects Darlington to be a good work-out for himself and his team mates.

He added: ‘It will be a tough match at Bishop Auckland because it is our first game back. We will have to ease ourselves into it and make sure we don’t fly in, but it should be a good test.’
