Sunderland have secured the signing of Jozy Altidore on a five-year contract.

The American striker has joined the club for an undisclosed fee, believed to be around £6m, from Dutch outfit AZ Alkmaar and he can’t wait to get going.

He told the official website: ‘I’m thrilled to be here.

‘It’s a fantastic club, I’m really excited about this season and I’m excited to be a part of it.’

If he can get anywhere near to his 22 goals for Alkmaar last season for the Black Cats this time round the club won’t go far wrong!

With the 23-year-old having scored an impressive 17 goals in 60 international games to date for the USA he clearly has ability at the very highest level too.

Altidore will make his Sunderland bow in the Asia Trophy, taking place in Hong Kong shortly.
