Former Sunderland goalkeeper Craig Gordon looks likely to retire after failing to find a club this season.
The 30 year-old Scotland international left Sunderland at the end of last season following two arm breaks and serious knee injury.
However the former Hearts gloveman, who cost the Black Cats £9m in 2007, has yet to find a new club and admits that he is facing a decision over his future.
Speaking to BBC Sport, Gordon said:
‘It’s very unlikely I will be playing again this season,’ admitted Gordon.
‘In fact, I’m not sure if I’ll play again, so I’m looking to get into coaching as I want to remain in the game.’
Gordon has joined Scottish First Division outfit Dumbarton, helping coach the club’s goalkeepers, and admits the move into coaching could be next.
‘We [Gordon & Dumbarton boss Ian Murray] agreed last week for me to come in and start things at Livingston and it may become a regular thing.
‘I enjoyed the game and viewing it from a coaches point of view was fascinating.’
Signed by Roy Keane upon Sunderland’s return to the Premier League, Gordon went on to make 88 top-flight starts for the Lads, with his last appearance coming against Bolton in April.
Gordon also has full senior Scottish caps to his name.
