The 32 year old has been a free agent since the summer when his contract at Galatasaray expired.
According to Press Association Sport the defender has been out of action since May and is now on the Sunderland training ground going through his paces as he looks for a new club.
There is no suggestion at the moment that Eboue will eventually join the Black Cats, but manager Sam Allardyce does have the option as they have two spaces in their 25 man squad.
