According to reports, Gus Poyet may have the club’s left back problem solved after it emerged that Sunderland were close to signing Chelsea defender Patrick Van Aanholt.

The Dutch international has not had much time on the field since joining Chelsea and he has recently admitted that it was time he moved on after the London outfit signed Filipe Luis.

Poyet said that he would like to tie up a deal with a new player by Friday and if the rumours are to be believed then Aanholt took a late night medical with Sunderland on Thursday.

The move would be a good one for both the player and Sunderland, he wants to play in the Premier League and is not getting the chance at Stamford Bridge, in fact the 23 year old has spent the last two seasons out on loan at Vitesse.

And he only has a year remaining on his current Chelsea contract.

Just looked on the Chelsea site and one of their fans compare’s him to Gareth Bale and they should include a buy back clause in the contract. This player looks very promising
