Dunne Deal

Sunderland look set to complete the signing of Manchester City captain Richard Dunne, in a deal rumoured to be worth around £4 Million Pounds.

The club have been keen admirers of the Irish centre-back since their arrival back into the top flight, whilst Man City look set to offload their four time player of the year, as they set their sites on England defenders Joleon Lescott and John Terry.

With the club having a policy of not talking about players under contract at other clubs, Niall Quinn surprised local journalists by commenting on the player:

‘He is a player who is an excellent footballer but he is a Man City player until they say any different and we stand in a line. We are not the only admirers but if there is a chink of light we will get through it if we can. We probably need a few men and spirited people to lift what we have and of course Richard Dunne would fit the bill.’

Whilst Dunne will certainly add some leadership qualities to the club, the clearout under Steve Bruce looks set to continue.

After Michael Chopra and Greg Halford left the club in recent days, the latest player linked with the exit door is Daryl Murphy, who is set to be reunited with former manager Roy Keane at Ipswich. The news will no upset too many Sunderland followers, due to the fact the player cannot jump.
