DJ Bruce To Play His Favourite Toon

When Sunderland got a hiding on Halloween it was the lowest point of Steve Bruce’s career as a football manager. To make things worse, them classless clowns up the road decided to blast ‘Cheer up Stevie Bruce’ over the tannoy system to enrage the gaffer.

This time he wants his team to deliver a long awaited victory over the team he used to support as a child.

Bruce has admitted that he has selected his own personal song to blast into the 3,100 away support to get his own back.

Bruce said: ‘We have got something in store, but just wait until the end.

‘It is my choice, but the club are a bit scared of it. I am not telling you what it is. But I would love to get my own back!’

Bruce is happy with how his team responded from that particular horror show as they sit 5 points above Newcastle and on the cusp of Europe.

Bruce added: ‘What did I do after? I went home and went to bed. I haven’t watched the game again. I didn’t even watch the news. It was a total blackout.

‘I think it’s your personal pride that hurts the most. After 48 hours, you have to pick yourself up and that’s when you earn your money. You can’t be down in the dumps because you’ve got to lift all those around you, that’s when you earn your money.

‘I kept my counsel, kept quiet, tried to dust myself down and go again. The next day was probably worse, if I’m being honest. I think that’s what tests you. At the end of that week the players all went out together to a restaurant and we had a conversation.

‘What was said will remain private but for all of us it was about the response – what we were going to do and how we could put it right. Up until now, we’ve waited patiently and had to put up with all the abuse. So I hope it’s our turn.

‘We have won six out of 12 games in the league since and lost three. Terrific. A great return for us and we needed to do that.’
