Sunderland have completed the signing of Jermain Defoe from Toronto FC.

Sunderland have completed the signing of Jermain Defoe from Toronto FC.

The deal was finally completed and announced on the club’s official website on Friday, Defoe has signed a deal that will keep him at the Stadium of Light for the next three and a half years.

Striker Jozy Altidore has gone the other way, he has signed a deal with Toronto.

Defoe has been with the Canadian side since he left the Premiership some 11 months ago, he has played 16 games and scored 11 goals during that time.

Speaking about his return to English football, Defoe told www.safc.com: “I am delighted to be here and I`m looking forward to the challenge.

“It is a great club and I`ve always enjoyed coming up here and playing against Sunderland because of the stadium and the supporters. It is a great place to play and I`m really looking forward to it.”
