An interest in Lucas Orban has been confirmed, albeit an interest “confirmed” by his agent.

The left-backs agent, Filippo Colasanto, claims to have held talks with Sunderland consultant Roberto De Fanti, soon to be director of football.

Colasanto is quoted in The Echo as saying: ‘Sunderland are interested in signing the player. I have spoken with the new director, De Fanti. He called me to get some information about the Orban situation to start negotiations.

‘I know that Sunderland made an approach to Tigre saying that they want to sign him and they are in a position to come to an agreement.

‘We know it is a strong possibility to go and play in England. I am waiting on the decision of the player.’

It’s been claimed that a Sunderland approach to the 24-year-olds Argentine side Club Atletico Tigre was made last weekend, however this was rejected. An improved bid is expected to come and a deal agreed eventually though?

Any deal would have to wait until the season in Argentina is over though; Orban has apparently made it clear that he wants to see this out before anything happens.
