Sunderland’s Paraguayan Defender, Paolo Da Silva has kicked off transfer deadline day by leaving for Real Zaragoza for an undisclosed fee early this morning.

Da Silva failed to force himself in to the first team in his 18 months at Sunderland and ended his career here being behind previously unfavoured Anton Ferdinand in the pecking order at centre half.

Steve Bruce often said that Da Silva just wasn’t physical enough to deal with the large strikers in the Premier League. He made just 18 appearances for the club since joining from Toluca in Paraguay.

I for one thought he would turn out to be a decent signing by the boss, but sadly it was not to be and as someone tweeted on our official twitter page @vitalsunderland, Paolo was a model professional and he leaves with our best wishes.

Andy Reid has joined Blackpool until the end of the season.

So that would be Healy, Da Silva & Reid off the books. Great stuff from Brucey this Window.

Late on, Sunderland rejected an approach from Blackpool for Jack Colback on loan
