Sunderland defender Danny Collins is pleased to have retained his place during the course of this season and proud of the fact that Keane hasn`t bought any more left full backs.

Collins who has kept Irish international Ian Harte out of the team in my opinion has been one our most consistent performers and most improved player since last season.

Collins told the Sunderland Echo ‘There were a couple of names mentioned for my position over the course of the month, but there wasn’t anyone who popped up.

‘I’m on four bookings, so there is obviously a chance that someone will be getting my shirt sooner or later, but the manager brought a few players in and left my position alone. I take that as a compliment.’

‘We have brought one or two in and we all want to stay in the league.

‘I feel we have enough here to do that. We can all concentrate on that now.

‘Having played a fair few games this season, I don’t think there’s any relief that I’m still here. There was no mention of me moving on, so there were no worries.’

‘Overall, I have felt that I have equipped myself well in the team, but I won’t be getting complacent.

‘You are only as good as your last game and the gaffer has certainly let players know that at times.’

Sunderland have also confirmed Clive Clarke`s departure from the club.

Safc.com made the following statement Clive Clarke has left the club following the termination of his employment contract by mutual agreement following medical advice.

Vital Sunderland Says

Collins has certainly improved since the last time we were in the premiership and is easily our most consistent performer.

However I think Keane will give Danny Higginbotham a run in the team at left back when he comes back from his toe injury.

Vital Sunderland would like to wish Clive Clarke all the best for the future following his departure from the club.
