Andrew Cole has Joined Sunderland after signing a one year deal for the Blackcats. Cole left Portsmouth in the summer and was a free agent. The veteran marksman is second in the premiership all time goal scoring charts. Roy Keane hopes the ex Man U player can set an example to the younger strikers in the squad and provide competition for places.

Roy Keane told the official Sunderland site “His experience is vital for us. I spoke last week about the fact that we don`t have too much experience in the dressing room and there`s no harm in bringing in one or two lads who have done the course and know what it is all about.”

Cole told the site “I`m very excited to be here. It is another challenge and hopefully I can use my experience to help the young players at the club.”

I don`t think this is a great signing by any means but it may be a good stopgap. He has only signed a one year contract and will probably only be a bit part player.
