Sunderland have confirmed that they have completed the signing of Uruguayan defender Sebastian Coates.

Sunderland have confirmed that they have completed the signing of Uruguayan defender Sebastian Coates.

The fee is undisclosed but there are conflicting reports that say between £2m and £4m, but we would like to think its nearer £2m.

Now the club have landed there man after weeks of speculation after the player showed that he is a force to be reckoned with under the leadership of manager Dick Advocaat.

Sporting director Lee Congerton spoke to he club’s website saying: ‘Sebastian was an important part of the team under Dick last season and we are delighted that he has joined us on a permanent basis.

‘He has Barclays Premier League experience, which is important and, after spending last season on loan with us, he will be able to settle into the team very quickly.’

The 24 year old is Advocaat’s first signing of the summer and there looks like there could be a few more as he looks to put together a side that will not spend the season fighting the threat of the drop.

He’s been a good player under Advocaat, but he looked a right knob when Gus was in charge.
