Catts: It’s A Reffin Joke!

Cattermole played in the 4-3 defeat at Eastland’s but he was as angry as Steve Bruce with how the officials performed on Saturday afternoon.

The Teessider was captain and played with his usual grit and determination but he thought the officials were not fit enough to keep up with the electric pace of the game.

Cattermole said about the linesman Patrick Keane: ‘I just thought he looked sloppy. He didn`t look like he was fit enough to be working the line.

‘You`re talking about guys like Darren Bent – he`s rapid, he`s an athlete. The officials need to be as fit as anyone, but he didn`t look like he could do his job.’

This may start another debate after what happened after Sir Alex Fergusons comments about a Premier league referee not being able to keep up in the draw against Sunderland at Old Trafford.

Cattermole was pleased to come through the game unscathed but admits we were to blame for some of the goals also.

He added: ‘For three weeks I`ve been working really, really hard with the physios.

‘The gaffer gave me a week off and I went to Dubai and since then I`ve been having five or six really, really tough sessions.

‘Physically I feel all right, my weight is all right.

‘I just need to sharpen up a bit getting about the pitch.

But that will come with the games over Christmas.’

‘Defensively, though, you cannot afford to concede four goals in a game. It kills you. We worked our socks off.

“We feel sorry for the fans who turned up yet again – we got a great following and we let them down.

“We`re just not managing to put points on the board away from home. But there are positives to take – we just need to tighten up at the back.” Cattermole also joins Bruce and mostly everyone who seen the incident in rescinding Michael Turner’s red card. If the appeal is not successful we could lose another defender for three important games.

Cattermole said: ‘That is two sendings-off (Turner and Lorik Cana) in two games now.

‘Turns (Michael Turner) never took his eye off the ball, he went and headed the ball, it went into the stands.

‘There was nothing wrong with it.

‘You can`t jump without using your arms. I don`t see a problem with it. He wouldn`t have got sent off at the Stadium of Light but here you`ve got the bench up, the crowd making a noise, everyone is running around the ref.

‘It makes it hard for the ref and it probably does put the pressure on him. But he`s a Premier League referee, it`s up to him.“ He added: ‘It was nice to lead the lads out, of course, it always is. But we`ve conceded four goals and it`s disappointing to lose that game.

‘There were a lot of bad refereeing decisions.’
