Sunderland boss Steve Bruce has decided to give Lee Cattermole the Captain’s armband for Saturdays trip to Anfield.

It had been thought that the midfielder would be stripped of the captaincy after being sent off for the second time this season at Wigan this month but Bruce has decided to back him.

Cattermole has served his two match suspension and will boost the Black Cats midfield as they travel to crisis club Liverpool on Saturday (3pm).

Titus Bramble will also return to the side after missing the Carling Cup defeat to West Ham after being quizzed by Police regarding an alleged rape in Newcastle.

Kieran Richardson & Anton Ferdinand will miss the match on Saturday after failing to recover from hamstring strains, sustained on Tuesday night. Asamoah Gyan has a chance to play, but may once again start from the bench.

Catch 22 here for bruce he had to give him the armband back otherwise risk showing he makes mistakes or knock Catts confidence I hope Catts learns and makes it up to us with a fine display because Liverpool will push him knowing the refs gonna be against him because of reputation.

Exactly….He’s got to be really careful not to get booked early tomorrow..even if he waits until the 2nd half to put in the more meaty challenges. I’m praying it sinks in and he becomes more of a real influential captain
