Charges of criminal damage brought against Sunderland skipper Lee Cattermole have been dropped after the midfielder paid for the damage he caused to several cars in Newcastle.

The midfield enforcer went on a ‘car wreaking spree` with loan striker Nicklas Bendter last December in a street near to Sid James` Park.

However, the charges brought against the club captain have now been dropped after Cattermole who agreed to pay for the damage caused to five cars in Stowell Street. The bill will run into the thousands.

The 23 year-old has also been given a conditional caution after admitting his guilt.

ead of the Crown Prosecution Services North East`s Magistrates Court Unit, Clare Donaldson said to The Shields Gazette:

“Through the action taken, we have ensured that all the victims in this case have been swiftly reimbursed for the damage caused by Cattermole`s irresponsible actions.

“By accepting the conditional caution at this stage, he has also accepted his guilt in relation to all five vehicles – something that may have taken significantly longer for us to prove in court.”

The case against Bendtner was dropped three weeks ago.
